November Nightcrawls

October has been soooo busy and November more so. Alongside the bingos (both Bop and my own Ab Dab) there's been comedy nights, cabarets and more. Last week I took my solo hour, Life Lessons, to The Kings Head Theatre in Islington, London, which was fab!

Here's what's going on this month...

And yes, me album came out! MicroRAVE can now be streamed from Spotify, Apple Music and all the other platforms that don't involve trains. Videos for Nuclear Cooking Cave (Microwave) and Meal Deal can be found on me Youtube channel here.

Edinburgh Fringe Roundup

What a month! What. A. Month! I'm finally back from five weeks away, which started with Morecambe Fringe and then took me and Annie to an Air B&B by the sea (well, Portobello Beach) for the full run of the Edinburgh Fringe!

If you want a day-by-day blow-by-show account of my time up there then hop over to me TikTok where I did daily updates. There are also lots of piccies on my Instagram.

In short, between Aug 4th and 28th I performed the following Angela Bra: Life Lessons 20 times, Annie and Angela's Disco Divorce Party 21 times, as part of Tuckshop UK's Sickening 90's Drag Prom 9 times and as a guest at other shows 5 times. That's about 60 hours on stage in three and half weeks!

With Life Lessons at 11.30am, DDP at 4pm and Prom at 11:30pm there wasn't usually much time for sleep over the weekend (when Prom ran) but I powered through. The audiences at all the shows were lovely, with plenty of TikTokkers getting up early and coming to Life Lessons.

LL's run continues with performances at New Mills Festival this month and Glossop Comedy Festival and Retfest (in Retford) in October. Disco Divorce Party is also touring from October as part of Manchester party show, Bop & Brunch.

Gig dates have been added to the show page so do go take a squizz at them. If you're looking for some Angela action feel free to drop me a message to make a booking!

Big in Buxton!

My gosh, what a couple of weeks. It's been all about the festivals for me and Annie Sup has had me working hard on something called rehearsing. The songs are slick, the dance routines ready and the script set in stone (though with plenty of room for manouvre should the audience have something to say to us.) My own Life Lessons has had a bit of a tweak too.

Much of this practise was in the lead-up to both shows popping up at The Buxton Fringe this month. Angela Bra: Life Lessons went first and got itself a right nice crowd in the Green Man Gallery on a Friday night and then same again on the Saturday. We micro-waved, meal dealed and shared in the art of grating cheese together for a whole hour - a fab review followed, which you can read somewhat towards the bottom of the page here. I'm a "nifty dancer" apparently. Which is ace.

The next weekend, Annie & Angela's Disco Divorce Party did the same. Friday night's crowd were fun but Saturday's really did blow the roof off and we had a proper nice party. Always good when you get a good few groups of ladies what have been "lunching" since late afternoon. Respect to the blokes too - they also wiggled and waved with enthusiasm. Gold star, top marks. Review is slightly further towards the top of the page than the other one.

Next on the agenda is Morecambe Fringe at the end of the month, with a bit of bingo and some stand-up at Liverpool's legendary Hot Water Comedy Club this weekend. There's also something extra and very exciting in the pipeline for Edinburgh but I ain't talking nothing about that until I've got the go ahead. What I can say is that this August is likely to go from busy b to busy a+++. Andy isn't going to need to bring any clothes 'cos it's going to be Miss Bra morning, noon and night!

I gots in the local paper too - lovely!

Tuesday, 28 June 2022

It's been another wild few weeks for me since I last wrote. SO MUCH is happening. And is soon to happen. I'm a very happening kind of person. Yes.

When it comes to bingo I've got your number. And everyone elses. Bop & Bingo has taken me to Littleborough (cramped, chaotic, mad, people dancing on broken glass...you get the idea), Rawtenstall (posh, huge, an actual stage with monitors so I could hear what I was doing for a change), and a golf club outside Bury (easy going, fun, full of glamorous white haired ladies trying to squeeze the naked butler's bum). Annie Sup and I also partied at Thornton Hall Country Park with Bonkers Bingo and 80 people on picnic tables in a wooden marquee. I wore my biggest blockiest heels to contend with the gravel floor and it worked - and somehow I avoided the gas heaters setting fire to my bonce. Cool beans.

Away from the balls I did my first stand up set in AAAAAAGES at The Laughienda in Deansgate, Manchester. Lovely big crowd and top acts alongside me. Running Up Them Bills got its first live airing and I remembered nearly all of it. They also gave out half-frozen ice lollies to keep everyone cool which was dead nice.

Away from the live appearances I've been making more videos - both jokes for me TikTokkers and new music tracks. My latest, "I Wish Your House Was Neater" is doing right nice across the platforms with it's parody-take on Madge's La Isla Bonita. I'm dead proud of it, in fact so much so I've crowbarred it into my festival show.

Speaking of which, only two weeks to Buxton Fringe. Then it's Morecambe. Then it's Edinburgh. I did a nice little interview with On The Mic this week all about it. Read that here. For more info on the festival dates just pop over to me gig listings.

Love to you all, I'll write again soon!

Manchester, Buxton, The World!

It's been a grand old time since I last wrote what with festival previews, jubilee party hosting and a bingo in Royton to report on. Best to crack on with the story then and also chuck in the plans for July and beyond at the end of this update!

So my story this time begins in the function room of a restaurant in Royton with Bop & Bingo. Sixty or so crazy ladies were on the bubbly when I got there and we were soon elbow deep in dabbing action as Annie and I delivered the numbers and the laughs. We had both a 50th and 60th birthday party in which just shows everyone loves to call house whilst drinking it to banging tunes. For a change no-one got their nipples out in one of the games, clearly a classier crowd than usual!

Days later I was in Sheffield in front of a very different crowd for Viva Cabaret and a night of comedy from acts I ain't seen since the lockdown. They were proper good and The Discount Comedy Checkout did some borderline-genius improv in response to audience suggestions. Cross fingers I can come back because the pinot at their bar was actually pretty good.

Last week I was at The Ape & Apple for my preview of Life Lessons with Comedy Balloon. Both Cake Boy and Viola Viagra from The Crown came to watch plus a bunch of other people who seemed to know me even if I didn't know them. Oh the fame! Anyway, all fifteen of us had a good laugh and the MC commented it was the first time in his life his job had involved sweeping up a drag queen's cheese. Its a glamorous life indeed. The show came in at 1:03 - which is 13 minutes longer than it should be for Edinburgh so some editing may be required.

Once into the jubilee weekend things got hectic on the Saturday. I pootled my Micra to Buxton to open their Fringe Programme Launch Party with some micro-waves and exes on fire (come watch if you don't know what that means) and then spent ten minutes chatting to the organisers before hot footing back to Glossop and "Fit For A Queen" - a night at my local hosted by yours truly!

I had expected drunken madness from the locals but it actually turned out to be quite a respectable affair. Based on previous experience, I had thought I'd get two songs in before I'd have to abandon my show and make jokes between people doing karaoke. Instead though they watched the whole bloomin' thing. One couple chatted to me and knew more about my activities than I did. Fans! Who read this! Whatever next!

Which brings me up to date to report that yesterday I hosted some amazing acts at Square Jest and agreed on new dates for my comedy shindig to the end of 2022. The same night Cheryl Hole of Drag Race UK / Versus The World fame wrote HEART HEART HEART on my latest Instagram reel. Which makes me happier than should strictly be appropriate of a lady of 33+10. Still, whoooo!

So sorry for the delayed update but living the Bra-life is always more than a handful! Things have been crazy as ever and its only now I have the time to update on all the stuffs I've been up to.

The bathroom selfie says it all though. I've been here, there and everywhere. Yet, after two competition finals, a bunch of bingos, my own Pop Bop and my debut hour in Manchester's Village I'm still raring to go!

So let's start with the competitions. on April 27th I found myself at The Eagle for their venue's final of Drag Idol. It was plenty busy and the venue is a very nice place so I grabbed a pinot and settled in. I was on later in the night and did ten minutes of Angela magic which the judges were very nice about. One, who shall remain nameless, mentioned the name Honey G in the context of my Meal Deal rap. She is now on my detention list and will be dealt with firmly at some point in the futue. The other acts were very strong and, in the case of the winner, completely different to me. A proper glitzy queen of the sequins and showgirl variety. Annoyingly talented. The runner-up was also proper glamorous. Which left me to be the last of us placed - in third position.

Disappointed but not defeated, I headed to the Drag Idol heats at Via the next day and found myself in contention with the one and only Viola Viagra off The Crown and that. It was a hard fought battle but the judges ended up sending us both through to the final, which took place the next week. Where she promptly beat me. But I'm alright, nothing keeps Angela down for long. Except a bottle of Pinot.

Hic.

Away from the comps, Annie Sup and I ran our debut Non-Stop Pop Bop in Glossop with disco bingo, party games and a 100% pop powered playlist. Them what turned up had a real nice time and I now know the beauticians of our little town should I ever need semi-permanent eyelash extensions or a squidge of filler. Marvellous.

And so that leaves us with Bop & Bingo and my debut hour just off Canal Street to talk about. The bingo in Glossop was HUGE, noisy and a little bit mad. I posed with three women and an inflatable willy then made everyone Micro-wave. Pretty standard to be fair.

The next bingo witnessed a one hour flying visit from me before I had to shoot off into Manchester to perform my show, Life Lessons, at The Cockatoo Club. A well nice venue with a stage just the right size for me and all my stuff. Due to some international singing competition going on at the same time the crowd could have been bigger- most of them were downstairs cheering on that Timotei viking boy with the long hair and beard - but me and my support group had a neat old time. One lucky birthday boy even got the knob of my unused cheese from my Queen tribute performance (you'll have to see that to believe it!) I look forward to coming back with my tweaked and twerked up second version with more crowd chat and less of me rattling on. I can't help it, but I'll try.

'til laters!
