Time to Tour!

O-M-GOSH! I am SO SORRY everyone for taking SO LONG to update you on everything Angela Bra. I'm sure you have been going out of your MINDS with worry about when you'd get your next fix of the Missy Angela B. Well, it's here. Even if it is going to be kind of short.

The reason I can't stay for long? Well, life's just got so BUSY! After a right old knees up in Chorlton a couple of weeks back with Bop & Bingo my energies have all been directed at my festival shows, At Home with Miss Angela Bra and Annie & Angela's Disco Divorce Party

I've also knocked up a new batch of puns for the playground, water cooler or in your jim-jams if you're still working from home (I don't do PJ's as I'm proper classy - see pic) - which'll be all over the TikTok for the next few weeks. Like a school assembly, the shorter it is the more people like it so I'm making sure at least one in every three is less than six seconds long. YES, I am part of the problem for the population's diminishing attention span but you've got to know your audience and I know mine won't know me if I go on too long.

Speaking of which, the tour dates this summer are on the SHOWS page and there are more to come. Because I'm real nice though I'll post them here too. Get your tickets early, if social distancing continues the rooms we thought would hold seventy will probably hold less than a third of that. And a third of seventy is...look, I'm a part-time MUSIC teacher. Anything over 4 and I'm lost.

Shout Outs and Quizness

It's been a HECK of a couple of weeks everyone, I hope you're doing well. I've been on screen more often than bird poop and have discovered the rabbit hole that is the TikTok Q&A section. Alongside that, rehearsals have been numerous for both my own solo jolly, At Home With Miss Angela Bra, and double act performance with my mate Annie Sup, Annie & Angela's Disco Divorce Party. So let's get started, phew!

A couple of weeks ago TikTok asked me if I'd like to have a "Q&A" section on my profile where my followers could ask me pertinent and engaging questions about the inner workings of my mind. Every since I said yes I've been flooded with requests for shoutouts, birthday greetings and to call people "baka chungas," "poggers," and "sussy." Abandoning any illusions of cerebral potential I dived in and started to use all the weird filters, music options and subtitling available - with the dexterity of a toddler wealding a loaded paintbrush in one hand and a pritt stick in the other. Sometime a hundred people like it, sometimes it's over two thousand. I keep it real with the Comical PUNishment though. A joke you can dispense at work or on the playground every Monday, Wednesday and Friday guaranteed. Follow me here.

The TikTok puns were given a new outing yesterday when I appeared on the Zoom comedy show, Word of Warcraft. There were six of us performing plus the two MCs and a smattering of audience, which included a lady listening on headphones whilst coming home from work on the bus. Fare enough. My little set had, for the first time EVER, no songs in it and was a solid four minutes of bigger-trees, night-mares and dire-Rama's. I'll pop the set up here when the hosts send me a copy. For now you'll have to search the tok for the set up to those solid gold classics. It was good fun but I missed popping a tune in so I'm in no danger of becoming a stand-up (or, online, a sit-down) anytime soon.

This Saturday is the final online outing for Angela Bra's Bonkers Quiz Night, broadcast live at 9pm on Bonkers Bingo - The Tour. Ashley Frieze joins Andy Onions as the special guest contestants and you can join in too with a pen and pad of paper. Here's the all time leaderboard so far. We're chatting to a couple of places to take this thing live in a few months. Updates when I have them.

Rehearsals for our festival shows are going well and I'm sorting out details with venues linked to the Manchester, Camden and New Mills festivals and fringes at the moment. Admin admin admin...But it'll be worth it to see your smiley faces :)

Digital Dilly-Dallies

Oh wow everyone, it's lovely to be writing again. It's been a couple of weeks since my last update and I've been dancing my digits over the digital divide for hours on end to bring smiles to anyone open to the idea. I've applied for another bunch of festivals and had one confirmed in my newly-found hometown of Glossop for October. More news on those real life larks when they happen, but for now here's what's going on-line...including my TikToking (see pic for wise words on one of them - though you'll have to wait a week for the punchline as that's when I'm publishing it!)

I hosted Clash of the Tight Tens last Friday to a lovely little audience and gave them a bunch of jokes and a little sing-song between the ever so talented acts. A repeat of the show is broadcast on the Bonkers Bingo Facebook tonight at 9pm should you fancy a laugh. I was also in my heels on this platform on Friday too, fronting their St Georges Day virtual parade (pictured). If you'd like to see that then it's still there. Have a game of footie, a roast dinner and a pint on me and Georgie boy.

Next Saturday Annie and I host our penultimate (and you'll need your ultimate pen) online quiz night with special comedy guests and another four rounds of questions that, if not already baffling enough, are doubled in challenge by the way we cavort around them over approximately 90 minutes. You'll find that on the Bonkers page at 9pm next week.

Elsewhere on the web, my latest TikTok has reversed the spiralling view-decline of my channel since the dancing vice-president of doom, Al Gore Rhythm, stopped punting my mirth onto the For You page over the past few weeks. The new videos are in super HD thanks to my new camera and budget ring light so you can see every last detail...it's just as well I've been perfecting the trowel method of makeup mastery. I've heard you need to be thick-skinned to be a comedian.

I also have some shows coming up in May which I'm not hosting. On May 7th I'm part of the amazing Reyt Proper House drag showcase (ticket link here) and then on the 27th I've got 15 minutes on the ever-so wayward Clogg Comedy. I won't be performing in clogs incidentally - I've found they make my performance rather wooden.

Until next time...love to you all!

April Wowers

April's here and all is well for yours truly and her ever-expanding punchline. Since I last wrote I've gone proper viral, been booked for two comedy festivals and have been blessed with my own fan site on TikTok. Mad!

So let's start at the beginning. You know that throwaway joke I made about being "bye sexual"? 200,000 views and counting baby! Which is about 197,000 more than most of my others but it's the gift that keeps on giving and the followers are stacking up as a result. Proof that if you want a hit just make a joke viewers can tease each other with.

Since this clip I've expanded my online offerings to four different types. Comical PUNishment remains at the core but this comedy apple now has Angela's Contrary Dictionary (complete with Nicolas Parsons tribute on the back cover), music videos and Angela Answers Anything.

The last of these features my answers to all enquiries recently directed at me. These include challenging Paxman-level interrogations like, "Where did you get your name from?" and, "Do you like Yorkshire Puddings?" As I said, tough stuff. Making response videos helps me connect with my fans (who are known as cupcakes, bralets or Angelanuts depending on who you listen to), create diversity in my content and, most importantly, gives me a break from the hard work of actually having to think of jokes. Everyone wins!

Speaking of who you listen to, now I have followers in similar numbers to the Pied Piper of Hamlin (and, it appears, of similar age - BIG UP THE YOOF!) it was inevitable one of my wonderful cupcakes would set up their own fan account of me. Yes, this has really happened. So far there have been a string of videos featuring cut outs of me from across my online world backed by proper TikTok meme soundtracks. How AMAZING is that? Could go a bit a bit Fatal Attraction / Stan of course. So long as my followers remain doing it online rather than dark alleys all will be well.

And speaking of dark alleys...Well, not quite. But I am out LIVE this summer. IT'S OFFICIAL! 'At Home With Miss Angela Bra' is now booked for the Ram Comedy Festival on May 31st and The Buxton Fringe for two dates in July + another two dates with my mate, Annie Sup, for our show, 'Disco Divorce Party.' More info on the Shows page. I'll let you all know when tickets are on sale.

Right, that seems like quite enough typing, my nails are wearing out. See you all soon!

TikTok, Festivals and another Bonkers Quiznight!

If I've said it once I've said it at least every other post by now, O M GOSH guys, WHAT A WEEK. It's all been going off all over the place in the last seven days, from news of actual LIVE shows to our online quiz and my first TikTok going through the six figure barrier!

So what's first? Well, I'll start with the socials as they are my natural home. On the Facebook my new page (the one that hasn't been locked down for no good reason) went into TRIPLE FIGURES this week. I know, AMAZING. And I even gained TWO new followers on Instagram. CRAZY TIMES! But good though these stats are they do kind of pale against my Tikety Tock activity. On Friday I put out the last of a bunch of jokes I'd recorded a couple of weeks ago. It was BASIC, it was UNSOPHISTICATED and it needed the punning ability of a semi-talented 9 year old but IT WORKED! So yes, your Angela now has over 1,000 followers AND a post with over 135,000 views. As a percentage of views to followers that 1 to.....really rubbish but it's still 800 more than I had on Thursday. WIN! You can see it and all my other killer one liners here.

Elsewhere, the Bonkers Quiz night hosted by yours truly and my mate Annie Sup happened last night. Lucien Jack, Alice Frick and Andy Onions joined us for the merriment and very merry we got too! Big shout out to all the peeps who joined us in the FB comments section throughout - you are part of team Bra and no mistake. We will see you again in two weeks for the next one. In the meantime, we're hosting another Clash of the Tight Tens comedy night next Friday at 9pm. More info on that one here.

And if that wasn't enough, I got an email from Ram Festival about taking part in their Derby-based lolathon in May/June. At Home With Miss Angela Bra will be live and loud in a venue to be confirmed assuming all goes well with the roadmap to unlockdown. I've planned 8 songs, 23 jokes and 3 costumes changes - including my new leopard print dress. Me-ow!

'til next time cupcakes...

On it Online

I know I say it all the time, but O M GOSH guys, WHAT A WEEK!

Well, two weeks actually since my last post but I can't help it if I've been too busy to write. So, yes, a lot has been happening in my world recently and I want to tell you all about it.

First up, gigs. Three of them to talk about.

The first was for my good friend Donna Landy, technically taking place in Weston Super Mare but no doubt actually hosted on a server in China. I opened this little Pride fundraiser with some rollicking tunes and a few perfectly performed puns. The other acts were marvellous too. The Zoom audience numbered two and hid behind switched off cameras but them that like to watch through Facebook more than made up for it and some proper nice funds were raised. MARVELLOUS.

The second show was for the AMAZING Sonia Aste in virtual London and I headlined this one. The Zoom room was packed for this jolly and Sonia kept the energy up with big signs saying things like "applause" on them. Subtlety is for WIMPS! I got my groove on and fired my automatic pun-gun into the lot of them and heard the wonderful sound of slightly clipped distorted laughter in return. WIN! Money raised for charity too on this one. Charity begins at home in lockdown, or at least on your home computer.

The final show was MINE! Yes, yes, YES! Clash of the Tight Tens is BACK people with "trident tested" material from my favourite performers. Ali Woods, Lucien Jack, Alice Frick and David Eagle all belted out winners and the Zoom room cheered. I did a spot of MCing, mainly commenting on the angle people were viewing the show from.

Was it funny?

Yes...

...from whichever PERSPECTIVE you looked at it!

Oh dear.

Elsewhere, Annie and I hosted another Bonkers Quiz Night with Donna Landy as our special guest. She did better than the last time she played - scoring exactly 0.5 more points! Andy Onions was on top form as usual and our 90's Cool Britannia music round got people proper nostalgic - even if nostaligia isn't quite what it used to be.

And finally...TikTok! More ticks on the tock for my latest round of Comical Punishment. No green screen on this batch - more like a ropey disco in your local with a fancy lady chucking out the laughs between glasses of house white. Come and follow me, it's a RIGHT LAUGH!

This week coming the gig front is quiet but there's another quiz on Saturday and another Tight Tens the week after. I've also had confirmed my own Glossop Comedy Festival will be back this October. Stay tuned to see who I invite to this very exclusive house party in the top room of my local.

Shows! Shows! Shows!

Oh wow, wow, WOW. WHAT A WEEK! I know, I start every other one of my blogs like this but, y’know, got to keep the plates spinning if you want to keep dishing out the drama of life.

Last week it was all about the socials. The Insta is up, the Facebook is up and the TikTok is now tipping 300 followers like an enthusiastic tourist. 300 followers isn’t that much in TikTok land, many might say, but that Greek bloke only had 300 men and they did pretty well. Well, until the last five minutes anyway.

This week though it’s all about the LIVE! Yes, well, not live in person obviously but live through the internet. This Friday I’m doing my first FESTIVAL PREVIEW on the Zoom at the invitation of President Obonjo. I know my songs but everything else is on a clipboard for the while. Learning lines is hard. I’m a MUSICIAN not an ACTOR! The only lines I’m any good at are the ones I have to write when I’m stuck marking children’s work. Good effot but clarinet is spelt with an i not a y. Smiley face. (x30) GROAN. Anyway, I’m on for about 40 minutes from 9pm on a link I will send you if you write me an email.

The very next day, Annie and I have got Andy Onions and Donna Landy round our livestream for the latest episode of Angela Bra’s Bonkers Quiz Night. The music round theme is, “Cool Britannia,” and the bonus round features every mug in our house so it’s definitely going to be as AMAZING as ever. You can see the whole thing live on Saturday at 9pm here.

And as if that wasn’t already enough Angela for your weekend, I’m doing a GIG on Sunday night for Weston-Super-Mare Pride. There’s a VERY EXCLUSIVE audience attending in the Zoom room which I can invite you to if you’re very polite or you can just drop in on the live stream at 9pm here.

Anything else? Well, I’m please to say I’m HEADLINING a lovely little show hosted by my mate Sonia Aste on Feb 25th at 8pm but I’ll leave the rest of the details to next week. Annie and I are also hosting our own comedy show – Andy Quirk’s Clash of the Tight Tens Online on Feb 26th but that can wait a week as well.

As usual, here are some links for the socials. Subscribe! And read the weird and wonderful comments I get on TikTok in particular!

Two Days in Buxton / Two Weeks in Edinburgh

Having completed my 13 day half-run at the Edinburgh Fringe, I've now had time to reflect on the wonderfully wild ride of my show "...
